In connection with the new partnership with Restra Group, we met with Joakim Thorsaeus, CEO of Naturskog, to discuss the industry's development, the company's ambitions, and the next phase of Naturskog's journey.
Here, Joakim shares his insights and visions for the future of Naturskog, forestry, and the decision to enter into a partnership with Antilop Group.
What are the biggest challenges and opportunities you see for bioenergy in the future?
"We face a clear balancing act—continuing to actively and responsibly manage the forest while preserving ecosystems and biodiversity. At the same time, there are great opportunities. Digitalization, better planning, and more efficient working methods make forestry more sustainable, and bioenergy from forest residues has enormous potential to replace fossil fuels and contribute to the climate transition. Here, we play an important role as operational actors."
Where do you see Naturskog in 5 years? What are your ambitions and goals for the company's future development?
"In five years, Naturskog should be a leading player in forestry, nature conservation, and bioenergy in Central Sweden. We aim to continue to grow—both organically and through strategic acquisitions—while strengthening our position as a reliable and long-term partner for landowners, energy companies, and public entities."
Why did you choose to partner with Restra Group?
"When we started looking for a partner, it was important to find more than just a financial investor. Restra quickly showed that they are an active and committed owner with operational experience and a clear focus on bioenergy and sustainable development. This gave us the right conditions to take the next step in our growth journey."
How has Restra contributed since the partnership began?
"Restra's team, led by Carl and Gabriel, have been attentive from the day they came in, and together with us, identified four areas we wanted to focus on in the first 200 days. It was clear that the team had experience from similar growth journeys, and their efforts have been crucial to how well the first six months with Restra as a partner have gone."
